From 2008 to 2011, the Thai Italian Chamber of Commerce developed this project to protect and promote Thai GIs products by registering them in Europe and to increase their value through the EU logo and to protect their uniqueness.
With this aim, TICC’s project moves in three parallel ways:
- Circulation of the best practices on the process to register Thai GIs in EU
- Case studies displaying how Thai GIs may attain EU protection
- Study of a potential Thai GIs market in the EU
The Geographical Indications protection system aims to preserve the original geographical environment of Thai products. In a global market, they represent an added value and play a vital role in the protection of cultural heritage, traditional production methods and natural resources.
